The American Hazlenut is a fairly hardy and low-maintenance shrub. It produces hazelnuts which are enjoyed by humans and wildlife, alike. Hazelnuts are often used in baking and coffee flavoring but also serve a purpose in hog feed. These nuts are utilized in the cosmetics industry as well for the skin-softening properties related to the oleic acid contained within the nut.
