Arrowwood is a large shrub with ovate and serrated leaves as well as white flowers that produce a blue fruit in the fall. The fruit is eaten by birds, squirrels, and turkeys. Pollinators are highly attracted to the arrowwood, including the spring azure which tends to use this species as a host plant. Arrowwood is also fairly resistant to heat, drought, and soil compaction.
