Silky dogwood is a medium-size shrub that blooms clusters of cream colored flowers in the spring and blue drupes that ripen by late summer. This shrub has mature grey branches and young red-tinted twigs which make up its structure. It’s common name comes from the texture of the fine hairs that line the leaves and twigs. The shrub is also called swamp dogwood alluding to its preferred habitat. Silky/swamp dogwood thrives in a moist environment and as such, can even be affective as a form of erosion control as well.
