About the Event

MiCorps Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program is a grant funded program that will allow MCD, in partnership with Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds (LGROW), to conduct macroinvertebrate sampling in the Flat River Watershed! Macroinvertebrates are aquatic invertebrates that can be seen without a microscope and can be sensitive to poor water quality. Collecting some of them, otherwise known as taking samples, is a good way to determine water quality in the Flat River Watershed!

For our official sampling event on Saturday, October 3, we will need leader and collector volunteers at each site! These are two separate volunteer positions, but we are teaching you how to do both. These volunteers are required to attend this training on Saturday, September 12 prior to the official sampling event to learn how to collect macroinvertebrate samples and lead volunteer teams while following MiCorps protocol.
