About the Event
MiCorps Volunteer Stream Monitoring Program is a grant funded program that will allow MCD, in partnership with Lower Grand River Organization of Watersheds (LGROW), to conduct macroinvertebrate sampling in the Flat River Watershed! Macroinvertebrates are aquatic invertebrates that can be seen without a microscope and can be sensitive to pollution. Collecting some of them, otherwise known as taking samples, is a good way to determine water quality in the Flat River Watershed!
We will meet at Jackson's Landing Park in Greenville, then separate into pre-assigned teams and carpool or drive separately to assigned sites. Each team will have leader, collector, and picker volunteers. Leaders and collectors will have attended the September 12 training. Pickers do not need to attend a training or have any experience! At each site, pickers will sort through macroinvertebrates that have been collected from the river by collectors. Pickers may get in the water to assist…
