Blue vervain is a perennial wildflower that blooms a “candelabra” of bluish-purple flowers. Blue vervain is a hardy plant that can be found in marshes, riversides, pond sides, ditches and meadows. Blue vervain attracts songbirds, small mammals, bees and butterflies. It is also a host plant for the common buckeye butterfly. Blue vervain has a long history of being used to treat a wide variety of medical ailments, such as depression, headaches, colds, wounds and acne.
