Black elderberry is a fast growing shrub that blooms small white flowers and dark blue/purple berries in large clusters. The red berries are poisonous, but the dark, blue/purple fruit is edible and often put in to wine and jams. Similarly, many birds are attracted to these berries and many butterfly and moth species are drawn toward the flowers of the black elderberry.
