The Red Oak is a large tree that grows moderately fast. The lumber is often used to make different types of furniture and other indoor items as well as outdoor posts and railway ties. Northern Red Oaks also support a wide variety of wildlife which includes many butterflies and moths as well as woodpeckers, turkey, and black bears. These trees are susceptible to oak wilt as well as chlorosis, where the leaves yellow with a lack acidity in the soil.
