Seckel pear, also known as “sugar pear,” is a pear tree variety that produces creamy white blooms in early to mid spring and small, sweet fruit in September. Seckel pear can self-pollinate, but produces better yields when cross-pollinated with another pear variety. However, Seckel pear does not cross-pollinate with Bartlett pear. Seckel pear is hardy and resistant to fire blight. Seckel pear’s fruit provides food for a variety of wildlife including birds, deer and small mammals.
