Sycamore is a tall, fast-growing deciduous tree with dark, scaly bark at the base that peels away to reveal smooth, white bark further up the trunk and branches. Sycamore’s crown can grow about as wide as the tree can grow tall. Sycamore is a tough tree, as it is somewhat deer and pollution resistant and can be planted near black walnut. Its seeds provide food for songbirds and small mammals. Sycamore’s sap has been used for syrup and sugar, and its inner wood has been used to make canoes.
