The Christmas fern is an evergreen fern with leathery, lance-shaped fronds that grows in moist woodlands and along streambanks. The Christmas fern provides nesting material, winter shelter, and food to various animals, and is known to attract the Ruffed Grouse. The Christmas fern is resistant to a variety of challenges such as fire and browsing by rabbits and squirrels. It is also fairly deer resistant, except in areas overpopulated by deer.
